Laurel Man Gunned Down Outside Suitland Ballroom

Homicide was part of three overnight killings in southern Prince George's.

Prince George's County Police are investigating the death of a Laurel man who was shot and killed outside a ballroom in Suitland early Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident happened at 12:43 a.m., when patrol officers responded to calls of a shooting along the 3900 block of Bexley Place.  

When police arrived, they discovered the body of Clifton Antion Turner, 42, of the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road, suffering from a upper body gunshot wound outside the Upscale Ballroom.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Cpl. Henry Tippett, a police spokesman, said the man has been a patron at the Ballroom.  According to witness reports, he said that Turner had gone out to his car in the parking lot when gunshots were heard.  Tippett said witnesses reported seeing the alleged gunman flee into the woods near the establishment.

The shooting was apart of three separate homicides that swept through the county overnight.

The Examiner reports that less than two hours after Turner's homicide, police were called to the 7200 block of Crafford Place in Fort Washington for another report of gunshots and found a second unresponsive man. Police said a third man was later found dead at Tucker and Palmer roads in Fort Washington.

According to court documents, Turner had a record dating back to the early 1990s of petty drug charges, and as of Jan. 2010, held a residence along the 14700 block of 4th Street.
