Laurel Police Officers Honored for Service, Citizenship

Laurel Mayor Craig Moe and Police Chief Rich McLaughlin recently recognized dozens of police officers and others for their public service during an annual City of Laurel and Laurel City Police awards ceremony. ABC7/WJLA-TV Reporter Brad Bell served as the Emcee for the event. Mr. Bell is the Prince George’s County and Maryland Bureau Chief for ABC7 and has covered many stories in Laurel and the surrounding area.

Coincidentally, the ceremony coincided with National Police Week. Police Chief Rich McLaughlin says, “The men and women of the Laurel Police Department remember and honor the lives of those officers who have made the supreme sacrifice, it is also during this time of the year, we, as a Department, want to recognize those members of the Laurel Police Department, as well as, outstanding members of the community, who have gone above and beyond what is normally expected."

Mayor Moe echoed those sentiments and noted “The community appreciates the dedication and commitment to duty of the men and women of the Laurel Police Department and I want to especially thank Chief Rich McLaughlin for his leadership making the Laurel Police Department a first class agency.” In addition to two canine (K9) retirements, the Mayor and Chief presented over twenty (20) awards to about seventy-five (75) people, including several multiple recipients.

Mayor Moe and Chief McLaughlin congratulate all the recipients of this year’s awards and recognize and appreciate all that the sworn and civilian employees within the Laurel Police Department do for the citizens of Laurel, the surrounding area and all of our visitors making Laurel a safe place to live, work and enjoy.

The Laurel Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency providing a variety of services to the citizens and visitors of Laurel twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Department serves the City of Laurel’s approximately 5 square miles with an authorized complement of sixty-eight (68) sworn and twenty (20) civilian personnel and an annual budget of almost $8 million dollars. The Laurel City Police handle an average of 45,000 calls for service a year.
