Laurel Woman Among Injured in Car Crash

Nine people sent to the hospital in eastern shore crash.

Nine people, including a Laurel woman, were injured in a two-car collision on Maryland's eastern shore Sunday and were taken to a hospital.

The accident happened along Route 18 in Chester when a Honda CR-V was traveling west along the roadway and crossed over into the center lane, striking a Toyota Tundra head-on, according to WBOC.

Samantha Hartness, 22, of Laurel, was identified as the driver of the striking vehicle. Stephen Cook, 50, of Washington, DC, was identified as the driver of the second car. Between the two vehicles nine people were injured and sent to local hospitals. Hartness and Cooke were sent by helicopter to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

WBOC is reporting that police believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
