Legal Wrangling Continues in Case of Laurel Woman Killed, Dismembered

Prosecutors charge that Stephen McDaniel in 2011 killed and dismembered Lauren Giddings, formerly of Laurel. A date and location for his trial are pending in Georgia.

Georgia prosecutors want jurors to see the apartments where a former Maryland woman lived before she was dismembered and killed so they can better understand evidence presented in the upcoming trial, reports WJZ TV.

Stephen McDaniel of Lilburn, GA, is accused of dismembering and killing Lauren Giddings, 27, who was from Laurel, Md., in June 2011. Giddings was a graduate of the Mercer University law school in Macon, GA.

The 27-year-old’s torso was discovered in a trash can outside the Georgia Avenue apartment complex where she and McDaniel, 28, were next-door neighbors, reports the Macon Telegraph. The pair were also Mercer University law school classmates.

The newspaper earlier reported allegations by investigators that McDaniel had visited a web page about necrophilia and Giddings’ Facebook page, and he seemed to have looked up information about a burglar bar like the one on her apartment door.

No date or location has yet been set for the trial.
