Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of Russett Man

Police said the man was fatally shot while in his driveway.

Anne Arundel County Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was gunned down while in his driveway early Friday in .

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. along the 8000 block of Ians Alley. Police responded to reports of a shooting, and upon arrival, officers learned that Gregory Robert Sears, 36, of the 8000 block of Ians Alley, was shot after being approached by two subjects in his driveway.

Sears was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting is the first homicide in Russett in more than 10 years, said Tim Reyburn, the community association president. He said in recent weeks the community has been struck with a wave of crime, including a robbery at the local Wendy's and a string of car thefts.

"This is highly unusual," he said.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is handling the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Shelly Guy at 410-222-3458, Detective Jason McNemar at 410-222-3463, Sgt. Keith Clark at 410-222-3456 or the Major Crimes Section at 410-222-3450.

I believe Russett may need more that one security guard ( with a flashing YELLOW light on the top, telling every criminal where they are!) driving around the community! We need more police presence!! Everyone needs to turn on their porch lights in the front and in the back of their homes. Keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to report something you see!

This area needs some "real" community leaders not just HomeOwner Association (HOA)President or Vice President speaking for the community. The HOA here is merely responsible for the "association" functions which is basically taking care of the property/grounds. There is no outreach to homeowners on a broad scale here. Any communications are squashed which is strange. And homeowners can't even use their own community center during the day !!!! Where's the civic association with "real" leaders not the HOA people who scour the neighborhood for property violations !!

HOA's are what they are and I love Russett! It's the best!
