Police Investigate Fatal Shooting of Russett Man

Police said the man was fatally shot while in his driveway.

Anne Arundel County Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was gunned down while in his driveway early Friday in .

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. along the 8000 block of Ians Alley. Police responded to reports of a shooting, and upon arrival, officers learned that Gregory Robert Sears, 36, of the 8000 block of Ians Alley, was shot after being approached by two subjects in his driveway.  

Sears was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting is the first homicide in Russett in more than 10 years, said Tim Reyburn, the community association president. He said in recent weeks the community has been struck with a wave of crime, including a robbery at the local Wendy's and a string of car thefts.

"This is highly unusual," he said.
