Man Tries to Burglarize Apartment, Then Apologizes: Laurel Crime

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from July 31-Aug. 2, 2013. Incident details from the Laurel Police Department are listed where available. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Wednesday, July 31

WARRANT ARREST | 600 block of Seventh St.: An officer made a traffic stop and discovered that the driver had an open warrant for his arrest. A 23-year-old man was arrested.

SHOPLIFTERS | 400 block of Sandy Spring Rd.: Officers responded to the Food Lion for a complaint about a vehicle parked in a handicapped spot without a placard. After further investigation, two arrests were made. A 57-year-old man was found consuming an alcoholic beverage in the parking lot. A 45-year-old man was arrested on scene for shoplifting.

WARRANT ARREST | 8000 block of Arbory Way: A 37-year-old man was arrested on an open warrant.

DUI | 900 block of Washington Blvd.: An officer made a traffic stop and found the driver to be under the influence. A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with traffic offenses, including DUI.

Thursday, Aug. 1

BURGLARY ARREST | 7800 block of Contee Rd.: A suspect attempted to break into an apartment but the resident was inside and confronted the suspect, who fled. PFC Houck was able to investigate further and obtain the suspect’s identity. Officers were seeking charges when the suspect returned to the victim’s apartment and apologized. He then turned himself in to police. The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was arrested and charged with attempted burglary. 

ASSAULT ARREST | 500 block of Montrose Ave.: Witnesses reported seeing a victim being seriously assaulted in the front yard. Officers quickly arrived on scene and took suspects into custody and summoned the fire department for the victim’s injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital. A 24-year-old man was charged with 1st Degree Assault. Officers are still investigating. 

WARRANT ARREST | 400 block of Montrose Ave.: A 39-year-old man was arrested at Fourth Street and Montrose Avenue on an open CDS related warrant 

WARRANT ARREST | 811 Fifth St.: A 35-year-old man was arrested on an open warrant for 4th degree sex offense and 2nd degree assault at the Laurel Police Station. 

DUI | 100 block of Bowie Rd.: A 48-year-old Mount Rainier resident was arrested in the 100 block of Bowie Road for DUI.

DUI/DRUG ARREST | 14700 block of Baltimore Ave.: A 23-year-old suspect was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana.

Friday, Aug. 2

ARMED ROBBERY | 808 Kay Ct: Officers responded to an attempted armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver. The victim stated he observed the suspect flee into an apartment. Officers discovered the door to the suspect apartment was wide open. Officers found the suspect in the rear bedroom. Officers also recovered a .177 caliber BB handgun. Officers arrested the suspect, a 35-year-old man.

ARMED ROBBERY | Fourth St/Ashford Blvd.: Officers responded to an armed robbery. Officers spoke to the victim who stated she was traveling with her daughter and was approached by a man who brandished a handgun. The suspect demanded the victim’s purse and phone. He then fled on foot down Ashford Blvd. Detectives are investigating.

DUI ARREST | 15100 block of Baltimore Ave.: Officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

DUI ARREST | 900 block of Washington Blvd.: Officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 23-year-old man, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. 

DUI ARREST | 300 block of Fourth St.: Officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old woman, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
