Men Chase Off Attackers With Sticks, Assault in Hooters Lot: Laurel Crime

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from June 23-29, 2013. Incident details are provided by the Laurel Police Department. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Sunday, June 23

  • FRAUD, 900-BLK Washington Boulevard: Detectives were notified and responded to a traffic stop where some suspicious items were located. Over 40 credit cards were located and were determined to have been fraudulently embossed with the suspect’s name and the card numbers had been altered. Two adult males were arrested. US Secret Service was notified and is investigating further. 
  • TRESPASSING, 500-BLK Eighth Street: Officers found a group of people at a city park. A 31-year-old subject was arrested for trespassing and a 24-year-old subject was issued a citation for open alcohol.

Monday, June 24

  • DRUG ARREST, 15100-BLK Baltimore Avenue: Two adult males were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. One arrestee also had an open warrant through Howard County. The arrestees were two males, 27 and 23 years old.
  • DRUG ARREST, Van Dusen Rd at Alan Dr: A 23-year-old male was found at Leo Wilson Park with marijuana and was arrested. 
  • DOMESTIC, 8200-BLK Harvest Bend Lane: A victim called the police and stated that she had been strangled. Officers found that the male suspect threw her to the ground and also threatened her with a handgun which he pointed at her head. The suspect had fled prior to police arrival. But a short time later an officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle driving in the Laurel Lakes Shopping Center and initiated a traffic stop. The 37-year-old male was arrested for the assault. 
  • ARMED ROBBERY, 14700-BLK Shiloh Court: A victim stated that he was approached by two men from behind. One of the suspects pointed a gun at his head and demanded money from him. The suspects fled the area with the victim’s wallet and cash. Howard County Police K9 assisted with a track which ended in the area of Bowie Road. Detectives responded to investigate further.

Tuesday, June 25

  • WARRANT ARREST, 7900-BLK Crows Nest Court: Officers responded for the report of suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, Police located a male and female sleeping inside of a vehicle. After preliminary investigation, Laurel Police arrested a 23-year-old subject on an open warrant for Larceny. The subject was transported and released to Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. 
  • ASSAULT, 14800-BLK Baltimore Avenue: Officers responded to assist Prince Georges County Police with an incident in the area of Cherry Lane and Route 197. Through further investigation it was revealed that the original incident occurred in the parking lot of the Hooters Restaurant in Laurel. The victim on scene stated that he had given two males a ride to Hooters and once in the parking lot, the two suspects assaulted him. He then ran to where officers found him on route 197. One suspect, a 23-year-old male, was arrested. 
  • ATTEMPT ROBBERY, 200-BLK Fort Meade Road: Laurel Police responded to the wooded area to the rear of the Old Country Buffet for an assault. Once on scene it was determined that it was a possible attempted armed robbery. Three men with knives approached three additional men in the woods. As soon as the victims saw the knives, they picked up sticks and chased the 3 assailants out of the woods. The three suspects fled the area in a white work van to an unknown location.

  • WARRANT ARREST: 100 Blk of Bowie Rd: Officers made contact with a 39-year-old male subject, who was found to have an open warrant for trespassing and was arrested.

Friday, June 28

  • WARRANT/CDS ARREST: 600 Blk of Main St: Officers made contact with a 48-year-old woman found to be in possession of heroin and to have an open warrant for CDS Distribution. She was arrested.
  • VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER: 600 Blk of Washington Blvd: Officers made contact with a 27-year-old male subject. He was found to have been in violation of a protection order and was arrested. 
  • DISORDERLY ARREST: 14800 Blk of Baltimore Ave: Officers responded to the McDonald’s for the report of a disorderly subject inside the store. Officers made contact with the 48-year-old man. After investigation, he was arrested.
  • DUI/OPEN CONTAINER ARREST: Officers stopped a vehicle identified in a road rage incident where one vehicle ran another vehicle off the road. The driver, a 19-year-old male, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol through testing. Two other male subjects in the vehicle—23 and 43 years old—were arrested for possession of open alcohol in the vehicle. 
  • CDS ARREST: 14200 Blk of Baltimore Ave: An officer working at Best Buy made contact with two subjects after smelling the odor of marijuana coming off their person. Two male subjects, 23 and 25 years old, were found to be in possession of marijuana and arrested.
  • DUI ARREST: 900 Blk of Fairlawn Ave: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. After further investigation, the driver—a 32-year-old male—was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. 
  • DUI ARREST: 100 Blk of Irving St: Officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle. After further investigation, the driver—a 36-year-old male—was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. 
  • DISORDERLY ARREST: 100 Blk of Washington Blvd: Officers made contact with a  32-year-old subject who was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Saturday, June 29

  • DOMESTIC ASSAULT: 400 BLK OF GORMAN AVE: Officers were alerted by a citizen about two subjects that walking in the area that were involved in an altercation. Upon further investigation it was revealed that a 22-year-old male had assaulted his girlfriend. He was arrested for domestic assault.
  • DUI ARREST: 200 BLK OF FORT MEADE RD: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. After further investigation it was revealed that the driver, a 28-year-old man, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for DUI.
  • WARRANT ARREST: Unit Block of B. ST: Officers responded for the report of an armed subject. Officer made contact with a 52-year-old subject found to have two open warrants for theft and driving while suspended. He was arrested.
  • DUI ARREST: 14800 BLK OF BALTIMORE AVE: Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. After further investigation, the 41-year-old driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. 
  • BURGLARY: 14709 BALTIMORE AVE: Officers responded to an alarm call at the Mr. Tire store and found a shattered glass door. LPD K9 attempted a track but were no able to located the subjects involved. Several items were taken from the business but later found nearby. Evidence technicians processed the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Laurel Police Detectives at 301-498-0092.
