UPDATE: Man Fatally Shot in South Laurel Apartment

Update, 3:30 p.m.

Prince George's County police have identified the victim of Tuesday night's shooting in South Laurel as James Thomas Cornell, 43, of the 8300 block of Montgomery Run Road in Ellicott City. 

"The preliminary investigation suggests the suspect(s) targeted the location, which was set up as an illegal gambling operation," the PGPD said in a statement.

Authorities are investigating an apparent homicide that took place late Tuesday in an apartment in South Laurel, The Gazette writes.

Prince George's County police responded to a report of a shooting in the 11600 block of South Laurel Drive shortly before midnight, a PGPD spokesman told the paper.

Officers found a man at the address suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Gazette. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

WUSA reports that the man was killed during a robbery.

A PGPD investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
