Prince George's Police Investigate Officer-Involved Crash in Laurel

The officer reportedly flipped his marked SUV and struck a lamppost Monday morning.

The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a crash involving one of its own officers early Monday morning in South Laurel.

According to police, officers responded to the scene of an accident on Baltimore Avenue and Contee Road around 2 a.m.

A county police officer driving a marked SUV reportedly hit a curb while trying to turn onto Contee Road. The SUV flipped over and crashed into a lamppost, police said, which in turn landed on several parked cars.

Speed and weather may have been factors in the accident, according to the department's initial investigation.

The officer, a two-year veteran, has been treated and released from the hospital.
