Police: State Troopers Injured by Drunk Driver on I-95 in Laurel

A Laurel woman was charged in the incident with driving under the influence.

Maryland State Police say two troopers were injured early Friday morning after their patrol car was struck by a drunk driver in the Laurel section of I-95.

Trooper First Class Manuel Moreno, 42, and Trooper John Cabrera, 34, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said. They are both being treated at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly.

According to the MSP, Moreno and Cabrera were investigating a crash shortly after midnight on I-95 north near Sandy Spring Road.

Authorities identified the driver as Arcenia D. Macklin, 48, of the 9000 block of Cherry Lane in Laurel.

Macklin allegedly refused medical treatment and was taken into custody, where she was later charged with driving under the influence and for violating the "move over" law.

Moreno is a four-year veteran of the force and Cabrera a three-year veteran. Both are assigned to Barrack Q in College Park.

Moreno was previously struck by a vehicle in November during a police chase on I-495.
