Thieves Strike Laurel Cemetery

Prince George's County Police charge two men in theft of bronze graveyard markers from Maryland National Memorial cemetery worth $3,000, according to reports.

Prince George's County Police arrested two men and charged them with theft after they allegedly swiped bronze graveyard markers from the Maryland National Memorial cemetery in Laurel earlier this week, according to The Washington Post.

Nathaniel N. Keemer, 52, of  Washington, D.C., and Gregory L. Gooden, 43, of Landover told police that they had taken 11 graveyard markers.  The incident happened Tuesday morning at Maryland National Memorial.  The men found the markers together in a barrel next to the cemetery’s work shed, according to the Post.

The two were caught after allegedly trying to sell the markers, valued at $3,000, to a scrap yard in Capitol Heights. Police were tipped off by a employee at the yard.  The two men were charged with theft and other related counts in connection with the incident, the Post reports.
