A 19-year-old Upper Marlboro day care employee is charged in a child abuse case after a witness caught him striking a two-year-old boy on video, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.
In the video, Johnathan Desmond Cummings is shown assaulting a boy under his care at an unlicensed residential day care on the 13600 block of Wood Ember Drive, according to police. Officers were called to the day care on Monday for the report of physical child abuse, police said.
The boy's parents were alerted to the assault by video a witnesses captured, according to police. Cummings admitted to kicking the child, police said. Detectives believe there may be additional victims, according to police.
Cummings was arrested on Monday and was charged with physical child abuse and second degree assault, police said. He has been released on a $35,000 bond.
The Maryland State Department of Education's Office of Child Care has issued a cease and desist order to the unlicensed day care center where Cummings was employed, according to police.
