Woman Tied Up in Home Invasion, Stolen Car Recovered: Laurel Crime

A rundown of recent arrests and police responses.

The following is a rundown of notable arrests and police responses in the City of Laurel from July 8-14, 2013. Incident details from the Laurel Police Department are listed where available. Arrests do not necessarily indicate convictions.

Monday, July 8

DRUG ARREST, 14600-BLK Laurel Place: A 26-year-old man and 25-year-old woman were both arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance after being found smoking marijuana in the parking lot of a closed business.

Tuesday, July 9

ARREST: 14800-Blk Ashford Blvd: Officers encountered a subject high on PCP breaking out the windshield of a vehicle. The 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with destruction of property.

SEARCH AND SEIZURE ARRESTS: Laurel Police Department Special Crimes Unit along with the Emergency Response Team conducted a search and seizure warrant in the 600 block Montgomery St. One arrest was made and narcotics were recovered. An arrest warrant was also served by them in the 1000 block Turney Ave. Two total arrests were made and those subjects were charged with distribution of narcotics.

Thursday, July 11

Burglary: 13900 Baltimore Ave (Laurel Lakes Primary Care Center): Officers responded for the report of a burglary. Preliminary investigation revealed forced entry and a stolen safe. Evidence Technicians processed the scene and detectives are investigating. 

ARREST: 14800-blk Ashford Ct: Officers responded to the area for the report of a domestic disturbance. A 48-year-old man was arrested for violation of protective order. 

ARREST: Van Dusen Rd / Route 198: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. A 42-year-old male occupant was found to have an open warrant and was arrested.

Friday, July 12

ARREST: 501 Main St: Officers responded for the report of a subject sleeping in the laundry room of the building. Officers made contact a 48-year-old male subject who was arrested for trespassing. 

ARRESTS: 300-blk Montrose Ave (Laurel Shopping Center): Officers made contact with a stolen vehicle occupied by 2 subjects. Officers were able to safely apprehend both subjects, and preliminary investigation revealed stolen property inside the stolen vehicle. This stolen property was linked to a theft from auto case in another jurisdiction. Also recovered were narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The suspects, a 27-year-old man and a 45-year-old man, were both arrested and charged with numerous crimes. 

DUI ARREST: 900-blk Washington Blvd: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 37-year-old male drive was arrested for DUI. 

DUI ARREST: 13900-Blk Baltimore Ave: Officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The 35-year-old male driver was arrested for DUI.

Saturday, July 13

ARREST: 14933 Baltimore Ave (Laurel Station), Officers observed a 28-year-old male smoking PCP to the rear of the business. The subject fled on foot but was subsequently arrested.

Sunday, July 14

ARREST: 10 Morris Dr: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance. The victim stated she had been assaulted by her boyfriend and had physical marks on her. The suspect, identified as Ricardo Perez age 26 was arrested and charged with the assault.

DUI ARREST: 9700-blk Fort Meade Rd: Officers responded to an accident in this area. Upon arrival officers noticed one of the drivers appeared to be impaired by alcohol. Cutberto Rojas age 36 was arrested and charged with DUI.

ROBBERY/HOME INVASION: On Sunday, July 14 at approximately 9:52 am, officers from the Laurel Police Department responded to the 300 block of Main St. for a home invasion robbery. A married couple who resided in that area reported that they had been robbed by three males at gunpoint. The suspects forced their way into the home, bound the wife with tape, and demanded money. The robbery was interrupted when the husband returned home. The suspects fled after a brief struggle, taking with them a lockbox containing several thousand dollars. PFC Waddell was patrolling the area immediately after the robbery and located one of the suspects carrying away the lockbox. The suspect fled on foot, but PFC Waddell pursued the suspect and apprehended him. Detective Sergeant Ivory of the Criminal Investigations Division took over the investigation, and the two remaining suspects were soon identified and arrested. All three were charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, assault and theft. Investigation revealed that the victims were targeted because they were allegedly engaged in the sale of narcotics from their residence, and were known by the defendants to keep large quantities of drugs and currency in there.

The three defendants in this case are:

  • Timothy Sean Hamilton, 21 years of age, of the 3600 block of Ft. Meade Rd., Laurel, MD 20724
  • Daniel Magana-Games, 18 years of age, of the 15700 block of Haynes Rd., Laurel, MD 20707
  • Leonard Starks, 20 years of age, of the 3600 block of Ft. Meade Rd., Laurel, MD 20724
