Accuser Wants 'Full Justice' Against Former Councilwoman After Alleged Attack

Charges against former Councilwoman Marilynn M. Bland dropped, but accuser is still pursuing legal options and possible civil suit.

The man who accused former Prince George's County Councilwoman Marilynn M. Bland of second-degree assault in November said he hasn't ruled out filing a civil suit against Bland ,even though county prosecutors dropped the charges against her.

In court documents filed in the Prince George's County Circuit Court, Wallace "Randy" Short, the director of the Prince George's County Youth Commission, alleged that Bland screamed, grabbed and cursed at him at the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro in November because he started a meeting without her.

Prosecutors decided not to pursue charged against Bland, who now sits as the Clerk of the Circuit Court, after investigators spoke with several witnesses and reviewed video evidence that did not support Short's case, according to Ramon V. Korionoff, spokesman for State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.

But Short maintains that the incident did happen and he is still pursuing legal options.

"I know I told the truth.  They know I told the truth," Short said.  "I am exploring options for full justice," adding that he is thinking about filing a civil suit.

Bland has declined to comment on the charges.  David Billings, spokesman for Bland, said that she could now move forward.

"Always pleased when [something like this] is out of the way," he said. "Whether false or not, now she can concentrate on serving the people."

Still, Short said he believes fear and intimidation kept other witnesses who saw the incident from coming forward, even when Bland never denied the incident.

"I believe other people aren't treated well by Mrs. Bland," he said. "Perhaps me standing up will empower them."
