Back Up Power Headed To Laurel

City of Laurel announces generators are being installed at facilities throughout the city.

More back-up power is being planned for Laurel to reduce blackouts such as those caused by June's violent storm.

The city announced this week that it has installed backup generators at the and the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Facility.

The announcement comes as the city has been making efforts to assist residents during days when . The city has previously opened cooling centers at the community center, and last week relied on generators to provide power because of storm outages.

Mayor Craig Moe said that generators are essential to servicing residents.

 “The recent storms and power outages have amplified the importance of developing emergency back-up plans for all citizens," Moe said in a statement. "The addition of these generators gives the city increased flexibility to serve our citizens in need.”
