City Gives Boost to Main Street

Mayor hopes to boost economic development program.

Seeking to give a boost to the Main Street corridor, Laurel Mayor Craig Moe has announced the city will be reducing permitting fees for certain properties.

As part of the city’s Economic Development Program, the Department of Community Planning and Business Services fee schedule will reduce the filing fees for commercial building permits, use and occupancy permits and sign and banner permits from May 1 through April 30 of 2013 for certain properties in the Main Street area.

Permit costs are based on square footage. Prices will be reduced as much as $60, according to officials. The goal of the plan is to assist a new or an existing business relocating to the Main Street area by a reduction in permit costs, according to officials.
