City Updates Residents at Park Meeting

Officials bring government to the citizens during City Hall in The Park event.

Mayor Craig Moe joined other city officials Wednesday afternoon at Sturgis-Moore Park for City Hall in The Park.

The event, the second one of the summer, sought to bring government closer to area residents.

Moe spoke at length on updates in the city including:

  • The new Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center on Contee Road, which will open Monday, Aug. 29. A dedication ceremony will be held this Friday at 10 a.m.
  • The deadline for candidates to file for the November election this year is Sept. 6. The city is still looking for election judges.
  • The Laurel Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Friday, Sept. 2 and Friday, Sept. 23. 
  • BG&E is liberally "hacking" away at tree's throughout the city in preparation of the winter. Residents who notice the tree trimmers cutting away too much are encouraged to call the city's Department of Public Works at 301-725-5300.
  • The city expects some movement on the long-awaited redevelopment by the end of the year.
  • No damages were reported during Tuesday's in the city.
  • The city pool will hold Doggie Dip on Sept. 10 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
