Council Clears C Street Flats Development

Old police HQ building to be demolished.

Laurel’s Art District received a shot in the arm last night as the City Council approved a conceptual plan to create a new mixed-use development not far from Main Street.

Council members approved a plan that would demolish the city’s former police headquarters building at 350 , a mixed-use development that would include residential units, shops and studios and galleries for artists, according to Karl Brendle, director of planning for the city. 

This week’s vote was the latest effort by Mayor Craig Moe and the Council to help the city’s Main Street corridor.  In March, the Council made $300,000 in grants available to Main Street businesses. City officials had marked , because of its proximity to the city’s MARC station.

A final site plan for the C Street Flats should be completed in a few months, Brendle said.
