Fare Increase Could Be Coming to Laurel Area Transit

Central Maryland Transit considers 25-cent fare boost to Connect-A-Ride.

Higher bus fares could be on their way to transit lines throughout the Laurel area, according to the Central Maryland Regional Transit Authority (CMRT).

To meet operating cost and stagnant funding, CMRT is mulling fare increases to Connect-A-Ride that could go into effect as soon as July 16.

During a CMRT Board of Directors meeting earlier this month, members recommended a fare increase from $1.50 to $1.75.

“This small fare increase is to support the best level of service for our riders and prevents service cuts from being made to Connect-A-Ride,” interim CEO Beverly Walenga said in a prepared statement. “Our customers deserve a quality transit experience and this increase will allow us to continue to provide a reliable trip at an affordable price.”
