Groundbreaking for Laurel Mall Redevelopment Slated For Today

Laurel Mayor, Prince George's County Executive to turn out for event.

The final days of Laurel Mall are near as a groundbreaking ceremony commencing its redevelopment into the Town Centre at Laurel is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Mayor Craig Moe, the Laurel Council, and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker are among attendees to the invite only event.

Greenberg Gibbons Commercial, which partnered with the site's owner, Somera Capital Management, to redevelop the mall, plans to demolish the existing structure and turn it into an open-air town center. Greenberg announced the mall was pursuing retailers Harris Teeter, Regal Cinemas, and Burlington Coat Factory to anchor the mall.

Plans for the mall’s the demolition of the mall’s parking lot during the holiday season. By May 1 the mall had officially closed, leaving only the U.S. Post Office and Burlington Coat Factor open.
