Laurel Council Meeting: Laurel Mall Plan, Annexation hearing

City Council is back and session with a busy slate tonight.

Introduction of a conceptual plan for the Town Centre at Laurel and possible vote on a controversial annexation tops tonight’s agenda for the Laurel Council.

Back in session after a summer break, the Council will be introducing an application for the conceptual revitalization plan for the former Laurel Mall, now to be called the Town Centre at Laurel.

Last week, during a work session meeting, plans for the redevelopment including transportation and traffic concerns along Fourth Street.

The Council could also vote tonight on a debated plan to annex more than four acres near the intersection of Cherry Lane and Route 197, where the sits. The annexation would allow the church to reclassify a land zoning designation for a small patch of wooded area adjacent to the church.

Residents from Patuxent Glen, a roughly 132 single-family home community that abuts the church property, earlier this summer on the rezoning fearing it would allow for the property to be developed and disrupt their neighborhood.

The Council meets tonight at the Laurel Municipal Center at 7 p.m.
