Laurel Election 2013: How to Get on the Ballot

City residents will elect a new council on Nov. 5.

From the City of Laurel:

The City of Laurel will hold its General Election on November 5, 2013. The election will be for five (5) City Council Members: Two (2) from Ward 1, Two (2) from Ward 2 and One (1) At-Large.

Qualifications for City Council are as follows: You must be 21 years of age, you must be a citizen of the United States, you must be a registered voter in the City of Laurel Elections, you must be a resident of the City for one year immediately preceding the date of election and you must reside in the Ward from which you are seeking election.

Candidates for elected office must fill out a Candidate Affidavit and Background Authorization Form, a Certificate of Nomination Form that includes 30 signatures of qualified voters, along with a $40.00 filing fee, a Treasurer Appointment Form and a Financial Disclosure Statement.

The deadline to file election forms with the Clerk to the Board of Election Supervisors for candidacy consideration is 5:00pm on September 3, 2013.
