Prince George's County Council Approves Fund Transfer to Health Services

Council agrees to shift funds to county hospital system.

Additional funding is on its way to health services and other departments in Prince George's County after the council today agreed to shift $19 million from surplus funds to restore funding reductions made in the fiscal year 2011 budget.

Dimensions Healthcare System, the Economic Development Corporation, Conference and Visitors Bureau, and the Financial Services Corporation are all expected to get a boost in funding. Dimensions, the county's largest hospital and healthcare service provider, will get the largest cut--about $15 million.

Dimensions has been struggling in recent years to make its flagship hospital, Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, profitable.

The resolution allows surplus funds to be transferred from county agencies including the Office of Law and the Non-Departmental office, which manages funds and resources that are not tied to a specific department or agency.
