State Leaders Respond to Death of Osama Bin Laden

Leaders call news of bin Laden's death a "significant" day.

State leaders have responded to the of Osama bin Laden.  Here's a quick round up of their statements.

Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker (D) said news of bin Laden's death was a significant day.  During the Sept. 11 attacks the county lost 19 residents including one man from the Laurel area.

"Today, Prince Georgians, like all Americans, are united as they were 3,520 days ago on September, 11, 2001.  As we recognize the significance of the news today, we remember the victims and heroes of 9/11 and those who have served and continue to serve this county," Baker said in a statement.  "Although Osama bin Laden is dead, we must remain vigilant in our protection of the homeland.  In Prince George's County, our residents remain steadfast in support of our Commander in Chief, our service members, police and firefighters today as they did nearly a decade ago.  Today is a significant moment in the history of our country and another reason to realize that we are all blessed to be Americans. God Bless America."

Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) also issued a statement:

“This closes a sad and tragic chapter in our country and our world’s history. Commend the men and women of our Armed Forces and the dedicated public servants of our nation’s security agencies. This should be a day of reflection and prayer for a more peaceful future.”

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD Dist. 1) issued a statement:

“Last night, President Obama announced that American forces had killed terrorist and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden.  This is great news for the security of America, as well as for our troops at home and overseas who continue to protect us from terrorism every day," he said. "I want to thank and congratulate all of our men and women in the Armed Forces – their hard work and bravery made this possible. This is a great day for the United States of America.”
