Laurel Academic Honors: Frostburg Dean's List, UMW President's List

Notable accomplishments in the classroom by Laurel-area students.

The following academic honors and degrees were recently earned by students from Laurel (as reported by their schools and family members):

Clark University: Amanda G. Palmer of Laurel has been named to second honors on the Clark University Dean's List. This selection marks outstanding academic achievement during the Fall 2012 semester. To be eligible for second honors, students must have a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.79, of a maximum of 4.3. 

Frostburg State University: The following students from Laurel have been named to the dean's list at Frostburg State University in recognition of outstanding academic achievement for the fall 2012 semester. To be eligible, a student must undertake a minimum of 12 credit hours and earn a cumulative semester grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale:

Grove City College: Lexie Ermi, a junior English major, has been named to the Dean's List. Lexie is a 2010 graduate of Washington Christian Academy and is the daughter of Mrs. Lisa McGovern from Laurel. Anna Kitchin, a junior English major has also been named to the Dean's List. Anna is a 2010 graduate of Rockbridge Academy and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Kitchin (Kathleen) from Laurel. Students eligible for the Dean's List have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59.

McDaniel College: McDaniel College recently announced its fall 2012 Dean's List in recognition of students' academic excellence. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 average. Among the honorees:

  • Brett W. Haas of Laurel received Honors
  • Gregory J. Nolen of Laurel received Honors
  • Shannon M. Nolte of Laurel received Highest Honors
  • Mara K. Seibert of Laurel received Highest Honors
  • Samuel L. Whitfield of Laurel received Honors 

Mount St. Mary's University: Mount St. Mary's University is pleased to announce 555 students who earned dean's list honors for the fall 2012 semester. They include:

  • Claire McGrath a sophomore from Laurel and the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael McGrath
  • Evan Oliver a senior from Laurel and the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Oliver
  • Matthew Waller a sophomore from Laurel and the son of Mr. & Mrs. William Waller

Tufts University: Tufts University recently announced the Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester. Among these students is Benjamin Glass of Laurel, class of 2013. Dean's List honors at Tufts University require a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

University of Mary Washington: Erica Christian of Laurel is one of 92 students at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg named to the university's President's List for the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Christian is a senior. The President's List recognizes outstanding academic achievement at the university by full-time students who attain a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. 

Morgan Harding of Laurel is also one of 727 students at the university named to the Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Harding is a senior. The Dean's List recognizes outstanding academic achievement at the university by full-time students who attain at least a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

University of Vermont: Sarah A. Strohmayer of Laurel has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at the University of Vermont. Strohmayer is a sophomore Political Science major in the College of Arts & Sciences. To be named to the dean's lists, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
