Laurel Academic Honors: Washington College Dean's List, Bowie State Graduates

Notable accomplishments in the classroom by Laurel-area students.

The following academic honors and degrees were recently earned by students from Laurel (as reported by their schools and family members):

University of Rhode Island: The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that Michael G. Tait of Laurel qualified for the Fall 2012 Dean's List. To be included on the Dean's List, students must have completed 12 or more credits during a semester for letter grades with at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 credits with a 3.30 quality point average. 

James Madison University: The following students graduated from James Madison University during the December 15, 2012 commencement exercises:

  • Brian Tran of Laurel graduated with a master degree in physician assistant studies.
  • Bryan Righter of Laurel graduated with a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

Washington College: Washington College in Chestertown, MD, has announced its Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester. Dean's List students are recognized for their academic excellence and have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester. Students recognized from the area include:

  • Bailey Howard of Laurel, class of 2015
  • Donald Moran of Laurel, class of 2014 business management major 

Clarion University: Anastasie Wiggins of Laurel, received a MSLS degree in Library Science MSL during commencement ceremonies Dec. 15 at Clarion University.

University of New Hampshire: Joshua Swanson of Laurel has earned Highest Honors for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year at the University of New Hampshire. Highest Honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.85 or better out of a possible 4.0. 

Delaware Valley College: Dr. Bashar Hanna, Delaware Valley College's vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, announced that June Dickinson of Laurel has been honored for academic achievement by being named to the fall 2012 Dean's List.

Bowie State University: Area students received degrees from Bowie State University on Dec. 21, 2012. They were among 415 students to graduate during the Winter 2012 Commencement. The students and their respective degrees are: 

  • Abigail Acheampong-Aning of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
  • Fuad Aregbe of Laurel received a Master of Business Administration degree.
  • Babajide Beckley of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
  • Melita Bell of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.
  • Alice Boatman of Laurel received a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology.
  • Surnita Brown of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
  • Brittany Darling of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.
  • Jerrica Gadsden of Laurel received a Master of Public Administration degree .
  • Megan Hack of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.
  • Michael Hawkins of Laurel received a Master of Science degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics.
  • Danielle Innis of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
  • Shanice Johnson of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Adolescent Studies.
  • Joan Lafinhan of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
  • Takashi Mbako of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
  • Devin McCoy of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.
  • Kyle Moore of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
  • Monique Ogburn of Laurel received a Master of Science degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics.
  • Jamila Opiotennione of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
  • Melissa Parson of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
  • Troy Pierson of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management.
  • Michael Sanders-Price of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
  • Michelle Thorne of Laurel received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
  • Tattwamasi Tripathy of Laurel received a Master of Science degree in Computer Science.
  • Adia Wright of Laurel received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art.
