Laurel College Standouts: Savannah College, Rensselaer Dean's Lists

Notable accomplishments in and out of the classroom by Laurel natives.

Below, find a roundup of the latest honors, degrees, and extracurricular accomplishments from Laurel-area college students. Descriptions are courtesy of the institutions named and/or students' family members.

McDaniel College: Senior Mara Seibert of Laurel performs in McDaniel College's String Ensemble on Friday, May 3, 7 p.m., in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD. The performance is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of adjunct music lecturer Nicholas Currie, students in McDaniel's String Ensemble perform varied musical selections. Pieces include Vivaldi's "Autumn from The Four Seasons," Mozart's "String Quartet No. 12, K. Nr. 157" and Mendelsshon's "Song without Words Op. 38, No. 2," among others.

Savannah College of Art and Design: Jacqueline Sindall of Laurel recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Sindall earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration.

Tara Walters of Laurel was also named to the Dean's List at Savannah for fall quarter 2012. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the Dean's List.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: Darren Smith of Laurel has been named to the Dean's list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Fall 2012 semester. The dean's list recognizes full-time students who maintain grade-point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 and have no grades below "C." Smith studies Industrial & Management Engr.
