Laurel High School's Olorunfemi Named 'Student of the Week'

The senior has a long list of challenging courses and extracurriculars to her name.

Laurel High School senior Karen Olorunfemi was recently named a "Scholar of the Week" by Prince George's County Public Schools.

Olorunfemi boasts a 3.5 GPA and has a long list of challenging courses on her transcript, including AP World History, AP English Language and Composition, AP Biology, AP Psychology, Honors U.S. History, Honors English 9 and 10, and Honors Biology.

She also participates in the National Honor Society, World Vision's Youth Empowerment Program, the Class of 2013 Board, the Bethel Campus Fellowship Bible Study, the African Student Association, the Yearbook Committee, and Diamonds on a Mission Youth in Motion Program.

According to PGCPS, Olorunfemi is applying to St. John's University, Hampton University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Cornell University, Mount St. Mary's University, and Hofstra University.

To top off her impressive record, Karen had the opportunity to meet with congressional representatives last summer "to propose a bill that would improve her community."
