Laurel Teacher Wins Golden Apple Award

The teacher from St. Mary of the Mills Catholic School in Laurel was recognized along with nine other teachers.

A teacher from a Laurel Catholic school will be recognized next month for his excellence in teaching along with nine other DC-area teachers.

David Floyd, St. Mary of the Mills Catholic School's technology coordinator, will receive a Golden Apple Award from the Archdiocese of Washington along with $5,000, a pin and certificate recognizing his efforts.

The Golden Apple Award was created by the Pittsburgh-based Donahue Family Foundation whose founders—Jack and Rhodora Donahue—sent their 13 children to Catholic schools.

The awards will be presented by Cardinal Donald Wuerl next month at a special reception and Greg Dolan, the Donahues' grandson, will emcee the evening’s festivities.
