School Board Member Resigns After Living Outside of District

Rosalind Johnson told the Washington Post this week that she had moved from Laurel to New Carrollton in June.

Prince George's County school board member Rosalind Johnson has stepped down from her seat after admitting that she had been living outside of her district for several months, the Washington Post reports.

Johnson, who was already set to retire this fall, submitted her resignation to board Chairman Verjeana Jacobs earlier this week. State law requires a school board member who moves out of his or her district to give up the position.

Formerly a resident of Laurel, Johnson had represented District 1 since 2006. She told the Post that she moved to New Carrollton (District 2) in June to help care for her ailing mother.

Johnson also told the paper that she was aware her decision to stay in the seat violated the law, but that she believed she was needed on the board until her term concluded.
