A Walk in the Park – Sampling Laurel's Riverfront Nature Trail

The Riverfront Park in Laurel, Maryland is open daily from dawn to dusk and admission is free.

The Riverfront Park Heritage and Nature Trail is one of Laurel's most gorgeous natural recreational areas. The park spans more than 30 acres park along the picturesque Patuxent River from the extraordinary dam ruins up to U.S. Route 1. The trail borders the Laurel Municipal Pool and its entrance is across the street from the Laurel Museum.

The park contains a trio of picnic pavilions, number of covered trails for hiking and biking, and various sites with picnic tables and grills all over park habitat. There is a restroom, ample parking, and assorted open play areas for the children to romp around. The most significant historic site on the grounds is the celebrated Avondale Cotton Mill site and dam ruins.

The small stream is open to trout fishing between May and February. If you want to just sit on one of the many benches and watch the wonders of nature, the numerous trails offer an assortment of spots with spectacular views. Check out the video clips from my brief stroll. I am looking forward to revisiting the park throughout the summer and in autumn when the leaves change color.
