Safer by Design: Making Laurel Pedestrian Friendly

New pedestrian signals make Laurel a safer place for all.

Many of you traveling throughout South Laurel and Maryland City may have noticed that new traffic controls. These pedestrian friendly countdown units not only flash, but they beep and vibrate too! Now, the average person may ask, “Why are these new lights such a big deal?”  Well, the answer would be that the installation of these new pedestrian crossing signals have made navigating the streets of Laurel much more safe for all it citizens. Not only do the lights help blind and deafblind pedestrians, but mothers pushing strollers, wheelchair users and older adults using mobility aids such as walkers and canes will find the visual information systems helpful. Kudos to Laurel City planners whose inclusive views have arranged the installation of these new signaling devices for Laurel’s citizens.
