Thriftastic: Digging for Bargains and Gold at Laurel’s Thrift Stores

Laurel Thrift stores offer an abundance of bargains and riches.

I’ve lived in Laurel for 17 years and have only recently begun to really explore the treasure trove of thrift stores throughout the city.

Whether you are trying to find material for crafts, affordable jeans to wear while working in the garden, or like me, old board games you can modify for individuals with sensory – thrift stores are you best bet. There are a number of local stores that I frequent a couple times a week just to see what new jewels have arrived. Second Chance run by Teen Challenge is a store I used to visit every day when it was located on Route 1 behind Papa John’s Pizza. Now that the store has moved further up the road on Route 1 in Jessop.

Not only does Second Chance have a variety games, toys and small appliances that I’ve been able to use for my training workshops, but a numerous occasions I’ve lucked out and found collectibles 33 1/3 vinyl as well as rare books. Half the fun is in the hunt! It is a great way to blow off some steam.

Three more very worthwhile shops are located on Main Street, Route 1 and Fort Meade Road. The La Segunda Thrift Store, located on the second floor of the Finders Keepers Bazaar on Main Street is open Tuesdays – Saturdays. The store recently moved to this location after several years one block up on Main. Now, the space is more spread out and treasures are a lot easier to locate. The Village Thrift on Fort Meade Road and Laurel Thrift Store on Route 1 are the other two stores I frequent when I have a steeper cash flow as the stores are large and loaded with vast deals. Depending on how much or how little you want to spend, each of these stores will probably have something to satisfy your needs.
