4 Orioles Selected to MLB All-Star Game

Adam Jones, Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy were named as starters for the American League All-Star team in this month's mid-summer classic.

Four Orioles, including three starters, were named to the initial All-Star Game roster on Saturday.

First baseman Chris Davis, center fielder Adam Jones and shortstop J.J. Hardy were voted in by the fans to start in the mid-summer classic, scheduled for July 16 at the New York Mets' Citi Field.

Third baseman Manny Machado, who turned 21 on Saturday, was selected as a reserve. He becomes the first Aberdeen IronBirds player named to an All-Star game.

Former Orioles outfielder Jose Bautista, now with the Toronto Blue Jays, edged out Nick Markakis for the final starting spot in the American League outfield. Markakis was not listed amongst the initial reserves.

Davis, who was the top vote-getter in the American League, leads all major leaguers with 33 home runs as of Saturday. Machado, in his first big league season, leads the majors with 39 doubles through Saturday. Jones and Hardy earn starts after winning Gold Glove awards in 2012 and helping lead the Orioles to the postseason.
