The third annual Helpin’ Others Custom & Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held Saturday September 8, 2012 from 10:00am – 3:00pm at the Bowie Baysox Stadium, 4101 NE Crain Highway, Bowie, MD 20716.
The show is organized by Sandra Holland and is being held in memory of her late husband, Frankie Holland, a veteran who passed away in 2010 from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a fatal disease that leads to an inability of patients to speak, move, and eventually breathe on their own. The incidence of ALS is five times higher than Huntington’s disease and about equal to that of multiple sclerosis. Military veterans are twice as likely as civilians to develop ALS.
Proceeds from the event will equally benefit The ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter and the Upper Marlboro Lions Club. Funds that are donated to the ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter will directly impact the lives of people living with ALS (PALS). They are funneled immediately into programs that are used every day by PALS. The ALS Association – DC/MD/VA Chapter provides services and support to over 510 PALS within the region. These services include assistive technology devices, social worker visits, medical equipment loan closet, transportation grants, respite care grants and many other services. All of the Chapter’s services are provided free of charge to the families through generous donations and events such as the Helpin’ Others Custom & Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show.
Spectators are asked to make a $5 cash donation to the event while children under 12 are admitted free of charge. The show is open to all vehicles; registration will run from 9-11am with a registration fee of $20, cash only. Registration of a vehicle includes admission for two adults. An awards ceremony will be held at 3:00pm.
The mission of the ALS Association is to improve the quality of life for people living with ALS (PALS) in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia while raising public awareness and support for finding a cure. The DC/MD/VA Chapter is based in Rockville, MD with an office in Richmond, VA.
