BG&E To Trim Laurel’s Trees

Utility company will use contractor to begin trimming trees after Labor Day.

It’s trimming time for trees in Laurel.

Baltimore Gas and Electric will begin trimming trees along 4th and 9th Street in Laurel after Labor Day, the city announced this week.

The utility will contract out to Mercer Tree Service Inc. for the trimming. Residents can expect to see bucket trucks along the roadway during the trimming process.

Trees will be trimmed 6- to 10-feet away from power lines in accordance to BG&E’s four year schedule, according to the city. There also will be some roadway lane closures during the tree trimming.

The trimming comes as the Laurel area has suffered from power outages after major storms including this and last year. Utility companies like BG&E and PEPCO have been pressured to be more diligent at trimming trees away from power lines to avoid outages during storms.
