Laurel Elementary Renovations Almost Complete

$5.9 million project will bring new look to the school.

A multi-million dollar renovation project at Laurel Elementary School is nearing completion.

Prince George’s County Public School invested $5.975 million into the project that will increase individual classrooms, eliminate open classrooms with no walls, and provide classrooms with new furniture, technology and equipment. The project is expected to wrap up next spring, according to the Laurel Leader.

The renovation has been inching forward since 2010 and was the first of its kind since the school was rebuilt in 1973, according to the Leader.  Construction on the fourth and fifth-grade classrooms is expected to be completed by the time school starts on Aug. 20. Renovation of second and third-grade classrooms will continue throughout the school year with students being placed in temporary spaces.
