And this time, barely surviving.
If you prefer to save yourself 1,500 words, here’s the bottom line up front: I ran a marathon. Barely. I finished, but not before I threw up in the vicinity of an NFL All-Star. And I’d do it again. The long version follows. I’ve written about running in this space before; I remain convinced that running is an essential human function, the only sport you were literally designed to do. However, you may have noticed that I failed to file an article on the Elkridge Patch last week. (You didn’t? Sad emoticon!) I missed my deadline because even Tuesday night, 26 hours after I had crossed the finish line, my body still refused to obey even the simplest of commands. That included typing or, more realistically, thinking. Doing two things together…

Former Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell was hired to be the Ravens' new quarterbacks coach Monday.
As if there weren't already deep ties between Baltimore and Indianapolis, the Ravens and Colts have gotten into the habit of swapping coaches this offseason. Weeks after being fired as the Colts' head coach, Jim Caldwell was hired Monday to coach the Ravens' quarterbacks next season. Cam Cameron held that position in addition to being offensive coordinator in 2011. Last week, Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano was hired to replace Caldwell in the Colts' top job. So, which team came out on top? Pagano coached the NFL's No. 3 defense in his first season as a coordinator in Baltimore. Caldwell's Colts went 2-14 after likely Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning never saw the field due to injury. But, Caldwell did lead the Colts to a …

Ravens coach Chuck Pagano was one-and-done as the team's defensive coordinator.
One year after declaring his defense would "wreak havoc" on the NFL, Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano is headed to Indianapolis -- just not the way Ravens fans had hoped. Pagano won't be directing Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs and company in Super Bowl XLVI, which will be played on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis. Instead, he will spearhead the rebuilding of the Indianapolis Colts as the team's new head coach, according to the Associated Press. The Colts went 2-14 in 2011 as franchise quarterback Peyton Manning missed the entire season. The team's failure to adjust to losing Manning cost coach Jim Caldwell his job. Pagano was hailed in Baltimore for bringing back the chaotic, aggressive defensive schemes more reminiscent of the Rex …

The Ravens lost, 23-20, to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.
Ravens wide receiver Lee Evans dropped a pass in the endzone and kicker Billy Cundiff missed wide left on a field goal that would have forced overtime as the New England Patriots won the AFC Championship, 23-20, to advance to the Super Bowl.
The Ravens play the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday at 3 p.m.
When the Ravens face the New England Patriots in Foxborough, MA, they'll have recent playoff history on their side. In the 2010 Wild Card round of the playoffs, the Ravens put on an offensive and defensive clinic in the first quarter and accrued a 24-0 lead after just 15 minutes of play. The Ravens cruised to a 33-14 win in that game two years ago, but couldn't beat the Indianapolis Colts the next week. This time, the Ravens play the Patriots with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. Putting that one playoff game aside, here's how some current Ravens have fared against the New England franchise: Joe Flacco, quarterback Averaged 274.5 passing yards with a 65.9 completion percentage, four touchdowns and one interception in two games. Ray …

The weather in Foxborough and injuries appear to already put the Ravens behind the eight ball.
The Ravens don't play the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game until Sunday, but the odds already seem against them. First, the forecast in Foxborough, MA, calls for one to three inches of snow on Saturday, which could leave the playing surface at Gillette Stadium a bit slick come Sunday. The slick turf favors the Patriots, according to The Baltimore Sun's Ravens Insider blog, because New England receivers may find themselves wide open should a Raven defender slip trying to change directions. Making matters worse, the only Raven on the team's injury list is Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed, who rolled his ankle on the final defensive play of the Ravens' 20-13 win over Houston. With the integral Reed playing with an injured ankle on a …
