Man Who Took Responsibility for Dead Animals in Wife's Trial Files Insanity Plea

The man who said he cared for the animals that were left to die in a Columbia townhouse filed a plea of insanity in the case.

  The man accused of leaving more than 20 animals to die in a Columbia townhouse, who took responsibility for their deaths in his wife's trial, filed a plea of insanity in circuit court earlier this month. Brady Decker, 39, of the 9400 block of Hundred Drums Row in Columbia, was scheduled to begin a criminal jury trial on Feb. 13 for his role in the animals' deaths, but that trial was pushed back after the insanity plea was filed and Decker's lawyer asked for more time, according to documents filed in Howard County Circuit Court. The trial is now scheduled to begin April 23. The court has ordered that Decker be examined by a doctor from the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene. The lawyer will see that he gets off - I find it really pathetic that people have to swear in court to tell the truth - but lawyers get to use any means they feel is fit to bend the truth and confuse a jury. That is exactly what happened in the first trial. No doubt he will do it again. Animal Rights Group Offers Cash for Animal Cruelty Education

An animal rights group will be in Washington, DC, this Friday offering a $1 incentive to watch a four-minute video on animal cruelty.

The nonprofit organization Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM) is offering residents around the country the chance to learn about animal cruelty while earning a little money.  Head to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) headquarters (1400 Independence Ave. SW) in Washington, DC, on Friday to watch four minutes of a video taken in factory farms and slaughterhouses—and get paid a dollar to do it.  As part of the FARM initiative, dubbed the 10 Billion Lives Tour, a specially equipped van with eight screens will stop in busy public locations and offer people $1 to watch the video documenting the treatment of farm animals, according to FARM. Animal Matters Board Seeking New Members

The Animal Matters Hearing Board is looking for new members from Districts 1 and 3.

The Howard County Animal Matters Hearing Board is looking for new members from Council Districts 1 and 3. The seven-member board hears and issues decisions on appeals of citations for violating animal control laws. It also issues orders related to the law, and makes recommendations regarding the animal control facility; the board annually reviews the facility’s budget. The call for members comes a month after 40 animals were found dead in a Columbia house and cats and dogs from abusive households are keeping full rescue facilities in Ellicott City and throughout Howard County.
