Mary Lehman wants citizens to be more knowledgeable about the county’s planning process.
Class was in session this week at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center as Prince George’s County Council member Mary A. Lehman held the first of a series of informational presentations that are meant to help residents better understand the county planning process. The series is called Planning 101 and the next one is planned for 7-9 p.m. on March 7 at the Beltsville Academy, 4300 Wicomico Ave. At the senior center, about 15 people attended the event, which featured a presentation from county planners on the process of land use and development within the county. Before Hurricane Irene swept through the region, state and local officials cut the ribbon on the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center.
State and local officials cut the ribbon at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center on Friday on Contee Road. During the ceremony, seniors crowed into the only standalone senior activity center in Prince George's County. The center is a one-story building that has 23,500 squre feet of usable space and is open Mondays-Thursdays: 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Fridays: 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturdays: 8 a.m.-2 p.m., and Sundays: Closed. Crowd wants answers from Councilwoman Mary Lehman, County Executive Rushern Baker.
More than 100 Laurel, College Park, Adelphi, Beltsville and Calverton residents packed a District 1 town hall meeting this week, demanding answers about development, water rates and infrastructure from Prince George's County officials. Councilwoman Mary A. Lehman (D-Dist. 1) organized the meeting Wednesday night in Beltsville that included County Executive Rushern Baker and officials from county agencies. Residents peppered officials with questions about the approval of environmentally hazardous developments, increasing Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) rates, funding for infrastructure on county roadways and over-development in rural areas.
