Zabrina Epps and David Murry both in the running for the open seat on Prince George's Board of Education.

The first is a 40-year-old academic adviser at the Community College of Baltimore County while the latter is a 20-year-old student at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. But what they want is exactly the same. Both Epps and Murray are gunning for the only open seat on District 1’s Prince George’s County Board of Education. In seven weeks, the district that serves Laurel will say goodbye to six-year incumbent Rosalind Johnson and hello to one of the two candidates left on the ballot. The young co-president of the local chapter of the League is using technology to distribute more information about upcoming elections.
Alice Giles has a tendency to talk fast. Whether the subject is new town zoning, the upcoming elections or advocating for stormwater management, she can talk extensively on many topics. Providing information is what Giles, 26, does as co-president of the League of Women Voters of Howard County. Before elections, the non-partisan group creates an election guide and holds forums for prospective candidates. However, in the age of the Internet, just sending out a hard-copy election guide isn't enough, according to Giles, who is working with the League to find more ways to distribute information electronically. "I want to make it a more modern, active group," said Giles, who lives in North Laurel, in an interview with Patch. "The answer to …

School Board candidate Ann De Lacy says the name-calling is more than uncivil. She says it’s dangerous. Her critics say she's running a divisive campaign.
Board of Education candidate Ann De Lacy says she has become “frightened” by the torrent of online criticism that has been lobbed her way as she wages a controversial campaign to get a seat on the school board in Howard County. She has been called 'volatile,’ 'arrogant' and 'ignorant' by her critics, words that have appeared on blogs and online forums across Howard County. “I’m a 62-year-old woman who served the community as a teacher. I’m a grandmother. I’m a volunteer in schools. So, it’s shocking to me to be called names in such a vociferous way,” said De Lacy, 62. “It’s totally uncivil. More than uncivil, dangerous.” In the 15-person primary in May, De Lacy, of Columbia, finished second with 28.6 percent of the vote. In the general…
