Farmer Brings Community Supported Agriculture to Laurel

Gorman Farm embraces community and organic farming practices.

Farming is hard work. Just ask the proprietors of Gorman Farm in Laurel, Dave and Lydia Liker, who have brought the idea of Community Supported Agriculture to Howard County. "Farmers are popular here because there are not a lot of farm stands left," said David.  "It's a hard business to be in.  America is in a bad place agriculturally, but I want to participate in a positive direction."  The Likers are part of  a relatively new entry into the local food industry. The idea of Community Supported Agriculture (or CSA) is members of the community buy annual shares or half shares in the farm for a designated fee and share the risks and rewards of running the farm with the farmer.  The purchase of the share helps cover the costs of running the …
