Ellicott City Resident Wins a Year of Dates

One man wins big in a contest to promote the use of a new parking application in the Historic District.

When a stranger calls and asks a kid for her parent’s cell phone number, the responsible child politely declines.  Even if it’s the County Executive asking. The young woman who identified herself as Mark Kinzie’s daughter to Ken Ulman did just that Thursday after Ulman called to let Kinzie know he had won Howard County Tourism’s “Download for Date Nights” promotion.  To support her responsibility, perhaps Kinzie will take his daughter out to dinner at one of the half-dozen restaurants that donated $400 worth of gift certificates to the promotion, or take her to a show at Merriweather Post Pavilion.  In all, the Ellicott City resident won more than $4,000 worth of free goods, services and gift certificates donated by local businesses as …

Best Mom In Prince George's County: Terri Moore

We announce the winner of our 2012 Mother's Day contest.

To honor mothers around Prince George's County, Patch asked users to upload photos of their moms and leave a comment about what makes them so great. The heartfelt expressions of love and gratitude made it too hard to choose, so Patch randomly chose a winner. And the winner of our best mom contest is... drumroll, please... is Terri Moore, of Bowie. Moore's daughter, Cindy Freland said: My mom is the best in Prince George's County because she taught me to be strong, bold and independent. Because of her outlook on life and what she believes, I have been able to run a successful business for 15 years. She taught me that life is what you go after and not what you settle on. She is smart, active, happy, full of life and 82 years old. I love you …

The Laurel Board of Election Supervisors are expected to vote this afternoon to allow a third candidate to enter the 2011 mayoral election's race in the city. Kim Rau, clerk to the city council, told Laurel Patch today the board is expected to vote at 4:30 p.m. at the Laurel Municipal Center on whether or not Valerie Cunningham, a former District 1 Prince George's County Council candidate, met the candidate filings that would qualify her for the office. The city had set a Sept. 6 deadline for candidates to file for office in time for the Nov. 1 city elections, including council candidates and mayoral candidates. Rau said that Cunningham had filed before the deadline but uncertainty with voter signatures required for her candidacy was not …
