Restaurant owner Chip Reed gave Patch a tour of the new restaurant and talked about his connections to Columbia.
The Corner Stable officially opened its doors for business in the Kings Contrivance Village Center last week. The restaurant opened Oct. 24, according to owner Chip Reed, who was pleased with the inaugural dinner service. “We were packed and on a wait all night,” he said. Reed said he hoped to see the restaurant serving a full menu — including lunch service — by the weekend. “We wanted to give the kitchen a few days practice,” he said. “We have 95 employees and all of them are new.” Just about all of those 95 employees are Howard County residents, Reed said. “We wanted to make sure we were bringing jobs to Howard County,” he said. “We were very conscious of that.” Reed said construction of the new restaurant took only seven weeks, which is…

The Howard County liquor board Tuesday night approved the liquor license application for Corner Stable, the restaurant that aims to occupy the old Michael’s location in Kings Contrivance. “It was unanimous,” said Chip Reed, one of Corner Stable's owners. “They are welcoming us with open arms.” The lease between Corner Stable and Kimco, which owns the space, has not been signed, but it’s been “agreed upon,” in essence, a “done deal,” Reed said. The Corner Stable, a restaurant specializing in ribs and crab cakes, is looking to occupy the vacated Kings Contrivance neighborhood fixture previously occupied by Michael’s Pub. Michael’s Pub closed in March after 25 years in the neighborhood, citing the economy and a huge space—and not enough people to fill it—for its closing. Advocates for Kings Contrivance village center said they are thrilled action is moving forward for Corner Stable, which will have its liquor license reviewed at a Howard County liquor board meeting on Tuesday, July 26, at 5 p.m. at the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City.
