Bladensburg Officer Dies After Route 100 Accident

Police said the officer suffered a medical emergency before crossing the median and striking another vehicle.

A Bladensburg police officer was killed Saturday morning after his police vehicle crossed the median on Route 100 in Pasadena and struck another vehicle traveling westbound, according to police. The officer, Brian Johnson, 38, is a nine-year veteran of the Blandensburg Police Department and was off duty at the time of the incident, said police. A preliminary police investigation determined Johnson may have suffered a medical emergency before the accident. He was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead, reported the Baltimore Sun. Glenarden Man Killed in Fiery Crash, Officer Wounded in Attempted Rescue

One Prince George's County police officer suffered burns to his hands and face trying to save the victim as flames shot skyward and black smoke poured across the highway.

  A 70-year-old Glenarden man was killed when his SUV crashed into a guardrail on Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Landover despite the efforts of three police officers who tried to free him from the wreckage, according to police.  Prince George's County police arrived on the scene shortly after the midday crash Monday to find the vehicle engulfed in flames and the driver, Rodwell McNeill, Jr. of Glenarden, trapped inside. (See video here.) Three officers attempted to free McNeill from the wreckage. One officer, a 21-year veteran of the force, suffered burns to his face and hands trying to rescue McNeill, police said. UPDATE: Teen Dies After Being Struck by Car in Maryland City

The 15-year-old was crossing the street when he was hit, police said.

A 15-year-old Laurel resident died Thursday morning after he was struck by a car in Maryland City, authorities said. Division Chief Keith Swindle, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said the incident happened just before 6 a.m. near Route 198 and Russett Green East. The teen was transported to Laurel Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and later died. Anne Arundel County police identified the victim as Jaelin Ashe of nearby Carriage Walk Lane. An investigation revealed that Ashe was struck by an eastbound 2010 Chevrolet Camaro while trying to cross the road Route 198, police said. Two Killed in Crash on Route 1 in Beltsville

A passenger vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and collided with a tow truck, police said.

Two people were killed Friday morning in Beltsville when a passenger vehicle collided with a tow truck, NBC Washington reports. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on U.S. Route 1 (Baltimore Ave.) near Powder Mill Road. Prince George's County police told the news channel that the driver of a southbound vehicle crossed into incoming traffic and crashed into the truck. One occupant of the first vehicle was ejected, while another died inside, police said. The tow truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Read more from NBC4.

Police Searching for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police said Henry Smith, 71, of Laurel, was killed when a car struck him on I-295 early Saturday morning.

Maryland State Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on I-295 early Saturday morning. According to a release, Henry Smith, 71, of Laurel was killed when he was struck by a car shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on I-295 near the Baltimore Beltway. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy performed Saturday confirmed his death was the result of being struck by a vehicle. Police said shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday they received a call for a person walking in the roadway on northbound I-295 near I-695. A trooper responded to the area and found the victim lying in the fast lane of I-295, just south of I-695. There is no information on the vehicle the struck Smith, according to the release. Poll: Should MD 32 Expand to Four Lanes Through Clarksville?

A recent fatal accident has brought the stretch of road between I-70 and 108 in Clarksville under examination.

  After an Ellicott City man was killed in a fatal accident on Route 32 in Clarksville on Nov. 13 the safety of the high speed, two lane road has been called into question. Currently the stretch of road where the fatal accident occurred is a two-lane road that experiences traffic during rush hour. On Nov. 13, the fatal accident was caused by the driver of a flatbed truck losing control of the vehicle while driving southbound, skidding into the northbound lane and striking a Jeep driven by an Ellicott City man who later died at the hospital, according to police.  A Maryland State Highway Administration spokesperson said officials are still examining the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine exactly what happened. Ever since they changed the time and cycle of the lights, getting to the 108 exit off of 32 is near impossible around 5-6 pm. The back up goes all the way down 32 and what used to take only a few minutes to get to the light at 108, now takes about 20. A fundraising effort is also under way for two other victims of the crash that fatally injured Benton.

Update, Nov. 21: A separate fundraiser is underway to cover the funeral costs of Brittney Marie Ziegler, 21, of Pasadena and her three-year-old daughter, Lilly Renee Gross. According to police, Ziegler and Gross were riding in the southbound lane of Marley Neck Boulevard when 30-year-old Joseph Allen Oliver Jr. of Glen Burnie attempted a northbound lane change, crossing the double yellow line in a no-passing zone. Laurel Resident Among Four Killed in Glen Burnie Crash

Three adults and one child suffered fatal injuries when their vehicles collided Sunday afternoon on Marley Neck Boulevard.

Four people—including one Laurel resident—suffered fatal injuries Sunday afternoon when their cars collided in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County police said. According to a statement from the AAPD, emergency personnel were called to the scene of an accident on Marley Neck Boulevard near Freeman Shores Lane around 1:36 p.m. Responders found two mangled vehicles at the site, police said, each of which had been occupied by one driver and one passenger before the crash. All four individuals sustained incapacitating injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene. Suspects Charged for Alleged Role in Officer's Death

Kevon Neal and Kenneth Mitchell are accused of leading a car chase that sent Officer Adrian Morris's cruiser into a ditch off of I-95.

A grand jury indicted two men on Thursday for their alleged role in an Aug. 20 pursuit that ended in the death of Prince George's County police Officer Adrian Morris. Kevon Neal, 23, of Fort Washington was charged with motor vehicle manslaughter, fleeing and eluding police, and theft greater than $10,000. Kenneth Mitchell, 25, of Washington, DC was charged with theft greater than $10,000. Neal faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted, while Mitchell faces up to 15. Morris, 23, was killed when his cruiser careened off I-95 near Powder Mill Road. Maryland State police said a woman was killed after her vehicle was engulfed by flames.

  Update - Oct. 8 - 10:15 a.m. Monday One woman was killed and a young child was seriously injured after a 3-car accident in which the woman's car was engulfed in flames early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 near Waterloo Road in Columbia, according to the Maryland State Police. Sadia Soto was killed in the accident, according to police. Soto's age and hometown were not released by police. State police spokesperson Sgt. Marc Black said Soto was pulling a trailer with a 1997 Toyota 4Runner on I-95 when the trailer became disengaged. Soto pulled over and attempted make repairs on the trailer.
