One Dead as Fire Rips Through Maryland City Home

The blaze broke out on Zona Street around 8:30 a.m.

One person is dead after flames tore through a home in Maryland City Wednesday morning, authorities said.  The blaze broke out around 8:30 a.m. in a mobile home on Zona Street just off of Brock Bridge Road. Anne Arundel County fire officials told WBAL that crews arriving on scene heard explosions inside, possibly caused by ammunition going off. WUSA captured overhead video of the blaze, which fully engulfed the home. No other injuries were reported in the fire. The name of the victim has not yet been released. Patch will have more information as it becomes available.

Odenton Man in Route 1 Crash Dies

Wednesday night collision led to one death, no other injuries.

A man involved in a crash Wednesday night on Route 1 died this afternoon, according to the Howard County Police. At 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday, police say Cornell Derrell Gray Jr., 19, of Odenton pulled onto Route 1 near Mission Road, causing a collision with another vehicle traveling northbound. Gray was transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Both passengers of the second vehicle were uninjured. Police said a preliminary investigation shows Gray failed to yield the right of way to the second vehicle. Police said Pfc. Jay Weber is investigating the collision.
