Columbia Residential Burglary A man returned to his home in the 10300 block of Painted Cup to find another man coming down his stairs with his wife’s jewelry box at 7 p.m. on Feb. 26. Upon seeing the homeowner, the man fled out a rear sliding door. Police reported a rear kitchen window was pried open to gain entry. Someone used an unknown tool to punch a hole in the glass on a rear French door at a residence in the 10100 block of Hyla Brook Road between 2:30 and 8 p.m. on Feb. 27. A safe containing cash, passports and other personal papers was stolen. A television, laptop, electronic gaming system and a duffle bag were stolen from a residence in the 10100 block of Hyla Brook Road on Feb. 27 around 11 a.m. A rear door was forced open to …

The week is set to begin and end the same: beautifully. But, according to the National Weather Service, we may have to deal with some soggy weather in between. There’s a chance of rain and sleet Tuesday morning, then rain as temperatures rise to the mid-40s. Rain will continue at night, when temperatures drop to the high-40s. Winds may pick up too, gusting as fast as 21 mph. A flood watch has been issued for the area from Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday evening. More rain Wednesday, mostly before 1 p.m. Skies will stay cloudy and temperatures will reach the mid-50s during the day, dropping to the mid-30s at night. Columbia Vandalism – Lilly’s Mexican Market Someone smashed out a side window at Lilly’s Mexican Market around midnight on Feb. 17 but it is unknown if anyone entered the store. Attempted Break-in – Harper’s Choice Liquors Someone kicked the door at Harper’s Choice Liquors in the 5400 block of Harper’s Farm Road, but no entry was made around 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 17. Highland Residential burglary Police say someone gained entry to a home on the 6800 block of Koandah Gardens on Feb. 9 at about 7:05 p.m. by breaking a window, reaching in and unlocking a door. Police say once inside, he ransacked a master bedroom closet and the bathroom. The homeowner returned home with his son while the burglar was in the house, according to police. The burglar tried to run off, but the homeowner caught him and they struggled; ultimately the burglar broke free and left through the front door, according to police. Nothing was reported stolen. Columbia Robbery – King’s Contrivance CVS A man stole a variety of DVDs and over-the-counter medications after entering the CVS in the 8600 block of Guilford Road around 4 p.m. on Feb. 5. As two employees attempted to confront the man, he brandished a large butcher knife and fled. Police described the suspect as a black male in his mid-30s, about 6 feet, slim to medium build, with a thin trimmed beard, medium complexion, wearing tan colored pants, a black aviator style jacket, a black and white baseball cap and was carrying a brown satchel bag. Columbia Residential burglary According to Howard County Police, a man entered a home on the 7400 block of Setting Sun Way on Feb. 2 at about 7:45 p.m. through an unlocked door. The resident asked the man to leave several times, police said, and he eventually did. Nothing was reported stolen. Police later received a call from the Corner Stable Restaurant on the 8600 block of Guilford Road for a man who was taking his clothes off and urinating. The description matched that of the man from the Setting Sun Way. The 25-year-old Columbia man was arrested and charged with burglary, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.
