Police Searching for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Police said Henry Smith, 71, of Laurel, was killed when a car struck him on I-295 early Saturday morning.

Maryland State Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on I-295 early Saturday morning. According to a release, Henry Smith, 71, of Laurel was killed when he was struck by a car shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday on I-295 near the Baltimore Beltway. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy performed Saturday confirmed his death was the result of being struck by a vehicle. Police said shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday they received a call for a person walking in the roadway on northbound I-295 near I-695. A trooper responded to the area and found the victim lying in the fast lane of I-295, just south of I-695. There is no information on the vehicle the struck Smith, according to the release.
