Victim of Fatal Maryland City Fire Idenitified

Officials say the owner of a mobile home on Zona Street died when flames engulfed the structure on Jan. 2.

Anne Arundel County officials have released the identity of the man killed in a Jan. 2 residential fire in Maryland City. Authorities said Steven Bradley Herman Sr., 55, died when his residence on Zona Road in the Parkway Village Mobile Home became engulfed by flames. Herman's obituary identifies him as an avid outdoorsman and Baltimore native who moved to the Laurel area 25 years ago. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, three children, and six grandchildren. Emergency responders were called to Bradley's address around 8:26 a.m. on the morning of the blaze, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Off-Duty Firefighter Saves Life During Soccer Game

Firefighter Stephanie Cizek left the soccer field to administer CPR to a fellow player.

  Howard County firefighter recruit Stephanie Cizek was playing in a soccer game at the Soccer Dome near Arundel Mills mall when she saw a fellow player, Mike Greenhill, 53, begin to feel ill and sit on the bench. She saw Greenhill’s chin hit his chest as he began to slump on the bench. She and a referee ran over to assist Greenhill. They were there when he lost his pulse and became unconscious, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services. Cizek, 21, immediately began CPR and instructed someone to call 911 and find an automatic external defibrillator. When Anne Arundel paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, Cizek helped prepare Greenhill to be transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He has since …

Fire Breaks Out Near Sears at Mall in Columbia

The fire started around 6 a.m. this morning and caused significant smoke damage to the interior of Sears, according to fire officials.

A fire broke out in a trailer located near the Sears at the Mall in Columbia around 5:40 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Howard County fire officials. As the fire was being extinguished, smoke poured into the interior of Sears causing extensive damage, according to Howard County Fire and Rescue Services. The trailer was reportedly attached to a loading dock. The fire was under control by 8 a.m., officials said. An airboat from Montgomery County was requested to assist with ventilating the mall to remove smoke, according to fire officials. Fire crews were on the scene throughout the morning on Thursday.
