Frank Alan Klukosky, 43, received the sentence from Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow in Greenbelt. Klukosky also faces lifetime supervised release and must register as a sex offender. Wish they would do more of these; great way to take impaired drivers (who are a risk to harm any/all of us) off the roads. Wish the court sentencing was a lot tougher, though; would be more of a deterrent if they did jail time/big fines/seized cars.   more ›

Police Sobriety Checkpoint Social Media Post Sparks Questions

Howard County Police confronted questions from the public on a planned sobriety checkpoint this weekend.

A routine press release from the Howard County Police Department on an upcoming sobriety checkpoint this weekend generated 89 shares, 64 “likes” and more than 25 comments on Facebook. What was all the fuss about? Reactions to the Tuesday post from the department ranged from worries about drinking and driving, texting and driving, to questioning why the police department had to inform the public prior to a sobriety checkpoint --- doesn’t that defeat the purpose? “I think it's stupid that the police [department] has to tell the public these things,” wrote Robin Maldonado-Shaw on the Howard County Police Department Facebook page. “You drink and drive you should go to jail! I know plenty of people who have just been slapped on the wrist yet …

Redouble efforts? Is that like rolling the dice two times in monopoly so you can zoom around the board and collect more properties? Why can't you just say the truth that HC is doing everything they can to keep its citizens safe every night with the budget constraints of running a large county? That's what people need to hear.   more ›
